About Domestic Papers and Lee Steiner
I'd like to introduce myself to you. I am a hand-papermaker and an
artist and have maintained my own studio for the last twenty years
working in mixed media on paper and canvas.
In my papermaking, I use pure cotton fibers and recycled
ingredients to create unique handmade papers. My papers can be
used for collage, drawing, painting, stationery, and bookbinding. I
have made custom papers for artists' special projects and I have
taught many people this fascinating skill.
Working with paper naturally leads to books. Bookbinding is fun
and addictive and I like to say, "I can make a book out of anything!"
I have made books from cereal boxes, CD's, coasters, and
placemats, among other things. I enjoy the thrill of experimenting
with diverse materials and the challenge of matching just the right
bookbinding format to the purpose of the book.
I believe I love all things paper and books, not only for the joy of
working with my hands, but because truly, the possibilities for
self-expression are endless.
I enjoy getting out of the studio and meeting people. Here are two of
my craft show booths from Fall 2006. You can see how many
different kinds of books I make- something for everyone!

Here's me holding a Longstitch Journal I made while living in Taiwan. Part of my "Sales Gal" series, this book features a postcard reproduction of an old fertilizer ad from China! So pretty!
My van loaded with salvaged rolls of book cloth and book board. A rare case of right place, right time!
